Heat bacon fat in a large pot over medium high heat. Add in the bacon and onion and cook until the onion is softened, about 8 minutes. Add in the garlic and cook for one minute. Stir in the green beans, butter, salt and pepper flakes, sugar, and chicken base. Add enough water to cover the beans and bring to a simmer. Cook for about an hour and a half or until the beans are soft and tender. Taste for seasoning and serve!
